Poul Henningsen (1894-1967): The Architect of Light

Poul Henningsen, known as PH, was a major figure in 20th-century Danish culture. The son of author Agnès Henningsen and writer Carl Ewald, he grew up in a vibrant intellectual environment. After studying architecture in Copenhagen, he devoted himself to lighting design, striving to create soft, non-glaring light.

His collaboration with the Louis Poulsen company made design history. In 1925, his PH lamps, presented at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, gained immediate success. Throughout his life, he continued his research on lighting, creating iconic designs such as the PH Artichoke and the PH Snowball.

At the same time, Henningsen was an engaged intellectual, publishing numerous articles and critiques. When he passed away in 1967, he left behind an enduring legacy in design and architecture.
