Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse (1824-1887) very rare ceramic sculpture of the liseuse by the factory of Choisy le Roi, from which his son Louis Robert (who was his pupil) was the artistic director and produced numerous animal sculptures in this factory.
Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse had the support of Napoleon III, he had many students in his workshop, the most famous being Auguste Rodin.
La liseuse that we present is one of the few known ceramic pieces, soft tones, quality of the realization make it a work of extreme finesse, and of great rarity.
Signed hollow on the base A. Carrier Belleuse and Choisy H.B entwined under the piece, as well as an old oval label indicating: Vve Bergeron and Vve Le Coader, porcelains and crystals 4 to 6
