Bété-Gouro, Cuillère
Bété-Gouro, Cuillère
This remarkable figurative spoon is distinguished by its elegance and the refinement of its sculpture.
The high domed forehead, the tripartite hairstyle extended by a plait and the small prognathic mouth, bring to its quintessence the expression of the aesthetics of the very rare Bété-Gouro masks.
Superb patina due to prolonged use, reddish brown and shiny on the reliefs, where we find a wear corresponding to the place of the thumb when gripping the object.
The delicate indigenous repair on the spoon, made of elephant tail hair, testifies to the symbolic and ritual importance of this spoon.
