Exceptional pair of torch holder in wood, stained black and gold, depicting a richly dressed Nubian couple (glass eyes) crouched on their knees, holding on their forearms an eagle supporting a circular plate designed to hold a torch or a vase.
They rest on molded and carved octagonal bases with geometric motifs, scrolls, and openwork fenestrations revealing two small seated Nubian musicians on carpets.
Venice, late 18th to early 19th century, in the continuation of Andrea Brustolon's work (1662-1732).
